Causes and Symptoms of Migraine

Migraine is a type of headache which is very painful and can affect a person anytime. Generally a Migraine headache affects a person for a few hours or for a day or two and then automatically disappears. During such Migraine attack a person gets ill and may also vomit at times. A detailed diagnosis of Migraine is performed if the headaches occur frequently and if the any of the following features a found to be present:

  • Irritation due to light or noise
  • Person suffering from pain which is limited to one part of the head
  • Presence of nausea
  • Vision disturbances
  • Queer sensations prior to Migraine
  • Other family members also suffering from Migraine

Even today the medical science has not been able to determine the major causes of Migraine headache. Nobody knows what happens inside the head which leads to all the symptoms of Migraine. According to one theory during the initial periods of a migraine attack when the affected person looks pale and some weird things start happening with the eyes or the skin, the blood vessels in the brain abruptly become narrowed.

After this a painful headache takes place when the vessels swell and become extraordinarily large. The Migraine headache continues to trouble the person until the Blood vessels come back to there normal size. Migraine headache can affect anybody at anytime, in fact one out of every ten people in this world suffer from normal or sever headache. During a Migraine headache a person should take complete rest and should avoid exerting himself too much. A Migraine headache affects one's daily routine as he is required to stay on bed for a couple of days.

Many medical researchers believe that Migraine Headache is caused due to changes in the Serotonin level which is a brain chemical and is believed to have its effects on the blood vessels connected to the brain. These blood vessels swell and shrink continuously due to such variations in the Serotonin levels and if the variation goes beyond the normal point, one suffers from Migraine. But still there is proper proof to support this claim of various medical researchers.

Migraine is quite common now and a majority proportion of the population on this planet suffers from Migraine attacks. Migraine is quite common among the young and middle aged people. Generally Migraine headache disappears after two to four days but if it peruses for a longer duration one should visit a doctor.
