How to treat cold sore
There are some methods available to treat cold sore.
To heal the sore quickly you can make use of lysine ointment which is very effective against the sore and can reduce the healing time of the sore to about 50% of the normal time which is about ten to fourteen days.
Another option is blistex which is available in the local pharmacy shop near you or any other grocery store. You must make use of it every hour. Washing the swollen area with salt water is also a good practice and by continuously doing it everyday for a few hours in a day can give you good results.
Use of Gilatin ointment is also useful in healing the blister and can be obtained from the counter. Using the medicine for hours a day for a few days can remove the blister in a short period. Also applying garlic when you see the first symptom of cold sore can get you a quick relief from cold sore but it might make you uncomfortable when applying it on the blister.
You can also put an ice cube over the blister until the ice melts so as to stop the further growth of the blister and the ice should be applied regularly to prevent the infection from spreading to other parts of the mouth. Pinning and rubbing the alcohol at the blister can also bring some relief as alcohol can prevent the herpes virus from spreading to other parts. People suffering from cold sore for the first time can make use of antiviral creams like acyclovir and famciclovir which reduce the healing time of the blister and also bring some relief against the pain. However these antiviral creams are effective only when used when the cold sore has just appeared. |
