What is digital image?

Digital image is a combination of pixels or dots, depicting a 2D image and stored in numerical form on an electronic media. Digital image is often stored in compressed and uncompressed forms and in different formats such as jpeg, tiff, pcd (photo cd), etc. Digital image can be created by a number of devices like camera, scanners or other similar devices.

Digital image editing!

Digital image editing is a process by which digital images can be altered using vector graphics or raster graphics software's. Since, digital image can be stored in number of formats like jpeg, tiff, bmp, png, etc. in both compressed and uncompressed form, editing of digital image requires a lot of professional skills. However, the present technology has enabled many users to perform editing of digital image in their homes just by using different user friendly software's like Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw and many other.

The field of digital image editing or processing is very wide and has lead to serious problem of authentication of digital image by providers of high quality digital images such as insurance companies, law agencies and many other health organizations. The major problem associated with digital image is that currently no method is available to analyze whether the image has been distorted or not.

Following operations can be performed to alter a digital image:

  1. Changing the size of image
  2. Cropping of image i.e. removing the areas that you don't require.
  3. Removing unwanted objects in the image.
  4. Histogram.
  5. Changing the color of image.
  6. Rotating an image to ay angle.
  7. Merging two or more images.
  8. Converting a colored digital image into grayscale format.
  9. Making color adjustments like changing the brightness, contrast or saturation level.
  10. Adding special effects.

Digital image editors provide the means of editing digital image in a no. of way creating a lot of fun for beginners.
