The creator behind the Playstation is Ken Kutaragi who is the president and CEO Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. he incorporated of using the cell processor in Playstation 3 and projected the underpinnings of cell processors to IBM engineers. He said that ps3 would start a new revolution in the world of gaming and dreamed to do this since the launch of ps1. When he was asked that when did develop the idea of a Cell Processor, he said just after they finished the development of the Playstation 2. He said after the submission of papers regarding emotion engine processor to the international solid state Circuits conference the construction of Playstation 2 started and he started planning about what should be their next product. He said that cell processors are mainly built for computing but he wanted to change the concept. He said he wanted to bring computer technology and entertainment together. According to him all the engineers are basically working on computer technology and even the emotion engine in Playstation 2 was based on the computer technology.
He was also asked, what were the challenges he faced while introducing cell processor in the world of gaming? He said that there were many challenges and the first one was cell processor itself. He wanted the introduction of pas3 in the market to be an explosive introduction and for this they were required to establish a production system to produce large volumes of cell processors in a short time frame. This was considered as madness by many people but they accepted this challenge.
He was also asked whether the multilayered structure of the processor will cause any problems in playing games. His answer to this question was that that ps3 is being developed keeping into consideration resource allocation, priority settings and other such things. |
