Sewing roman shades

Before commencing to sew a roman shade always make a diagram on a paper depicting the hem, the number of spaces between rings and fabric length. After this gather the following material- decorator fabric, lining fabric, fusible web, ½” polyester twill tape, by 2 mounting board, screw eyes, shade chord, weight bar, (8) * 2.5” flat head screw, (8) * 1.5” round head screws, a paper and a pencil.

After collecting the necessary material, Seam together the widths of the fabrics and trim to cut the width determined. Perform the same step for lining fabric. Apply liquid fray preventer to stabilize the side edges. Place the shade fabric on a flat surface with its face down and then station the lining on the fabric with upper edges matched. The lining should be placed under the side hems. Get the side hems fused over the lining with the help of 1/2” fusible web strips. Press under the lower edge fabric at an amount equal to hem depth and press again to make double fold hem. At the first horizontal row out a mark for the placements of rings.

The lining should be pinned with the shade fabric at each mark. The twill tape should be taped to the work surface. pin the twill tapes to ring marks beginning from the bottom of the shade pinning through the layers. The pins can be attached either with the help of machine or manually by hand. Tack the tapes properly and in place at top of the shade and trim the excess tape. The upper edge of the shade should be aligned with the top back edge of the mounting board. Then install screws under the board aligning them to rows of rings. Attach a draw chord either to the left or right of the shade. Then the shade should be mounted to a wall or a window. The awning cleat should then be screwed in the wall or the window.
