Instructions to Make a Roman Shade

Making roman shades is an interesting work to do and you should follow the following stepwise instructions to successfully make a roman shade.

Step1: First of all properly measure the window on which you intend to apply the shade and should also plan about the way you will mount your shade. After properly determining the finished shade width and length for every shade you can start with the designing phase.

Step2: Use a calculator to calculate lift lines required for each shade.

Step3: Each shade should have a proper design plan sketched on a paper and the finished shade width and height should be properly marked.

Step4: Correct amount of fabric and lining should be purchased from the market for each shade you are making.

Step5: You should join two or more fabric widths if the required width of your lining is more then that of the fabric.

Step6: The front fabric and the lining should be properly hemmed and the total length of your front fabric and lining should be equal to 2 inches plus shade length.

Step7: The front fabric and the lining should be joined at the side seam by making a tube. After turning the tube right side down measure the width at all locations and it should equal your shade width.

Step9: Finish the shade top with the help of loop fastener.

Step10: After verifying that the length of the shade is correct the raw side edges beneath the shade should be covered by folding up the fabric.

Step11: All final measurements should be made before cutting the mounting board weight rod and battens. Mounting should be cut ¼” shorter than the shade top and battens should be cut ½”shorter than the width of the shade in the middle.

Step12: The batten should be properly glued inside the shade.

Step13: and finally make your head rail.
