How to make roman shades ?

Roman shade can be defined as a simple and graceful treatment of windows to block sunrays of pry neighbors. They look more beautiful than plain plastic shades and are a perfect way to decorate your Home.

For making roman shades the size of the window on which you intend to put these shades on must be measured. In case you want the shade to cover more area than the window height and width of the surface to be covered by the shade should also be measured. Generally all shades are between 45 to 54 inches wide. You should also find out quantity of dowels and fabric you need before going to shop the same. To find out the exact requirement of dowels divide the height of the window by approximately six to nine inches and this is the distance between every dowel fold. An extra six inches of fabric would also be needed for mounting the shade and you get the final height by adding this to your window height. Similarly an extra two inches of fabric should be added to your window's width. This is the exact amount of fabric you need.

While selecting a fabric for a shade always keep in mind that shades which do not have any busy patterns are easy to work with because you don't need to be certain that whether the pattern blends properly with every fold. Consider picking up near-shear fabric if your window is exposed to southern light as it will give a soothing light in the room. Always paint a sample diagram of the shade before starting the making process. Apart from fabric you must buy a lining fabric, blind chord, window cleat, shade rings, screw eyes, staple gun and a yardstick. You would also need a sewing machine make the shades quickly especially to attach lining to the shades.
